Club History

The seeds for the sprouting of the Irish Red and White Setter Association, Inc. were sown in 1996 by several knowledgeable and experience dog fanciers and owners of Irish Red and White Setters from across the country for the purpose of preserving the purity of the breed, the retention of its hunting instincts and to adhere to the Irish Kennel Club's breed standard with full AKC recognition of the breed a primary goal.
By January 1997 ten founding members established a treasury and formed the Irish Red and White Setter Association which became the AKC Parent Club in 2005.
It is and always has been the goal of the Association to encourage breeding a multi purpose gundog by selective breeding, exhibiting in all AKC events while preserving temperament, soundness and breed type.
